But not at First Castle FCU! Hurry in to your nearest branch, or read on to learn more about it.
According to an article in today’s LA Times, banks have increased the minimum balance requirements and fees associated with checking accounts. Data released Monday from Bankrate.com show that the average minimum balance requirement for a noninterest-bearing checking account is now $723, and the average monthly fee is up to $5.48, 25% higher than it was this time last year.
With fees and balance requirements on the rise, Bankrate.com’s senior financial analyst Greg McBride reports, “a free checking account is still within the reach of most Americans, whether by getting the fee waived through direct deposit or moving to a bank or credit union that still offers free checking.”
